Shortly after the original Switch launched, the internet was filled with people licking their Switch Game Cards. This was due to Nintendo fans learning that the Game Cards were coated in Denatonium Benzoate, a bitter agent meant to keep children from swallowing the Game Cards. Thousands decided to lick their Switch Game Cards to see just how bitter the coating was, and most regretted it almost instantly.
That Switch Game Card trend has been dead for years now, but it seems like it’s starting up all over again thanks to one Japanese Nintendo fan. Twitter user D_tniann2236 shared a message about the taste of Switch game cards in comparison to, of all things, sakura buds.
**My dad said, “Cherry blossom tree shoots are delicious, you should try some!” so I gave them a go, but they’re seriously bitter. They taste like tannic acid and albumin or the back of a Nintendo Switch game cartridge. **
This message took off on social media like wildfire, and now we’ve got a whole new wave of people who missed out on the Switch Game Card licking trend giving them a taste for the first time, and they’re quickly finding out what the rest of us have known for years. Just like they did when the Switch originally launched, these Game Cards still taste incredibly bitter.
It seems the trend is in for a bit of a second life for the time being, with plenty more soon to jump on the tasting. If you haven’t done it yourself we’d suggest you stay far away as it’s not a pleasant experience, but we have a feeling that’ll just make you want to try it more!
