Lexar is the latest company to announce a price increase on storage products, following similar moves from ProGrade and OWC earlier this month. According to reports, Lexar will raise prices on SD and microSD cards by more than 25% starting June 1, 2026.
The increase comes amid a growing global flash memory shortage that is already affecting pricing and availability across the photography industry.
Flash Memory Prices Continue to Climb
The situation has escalated quickly over the past few months. Sony recently announced that it would stop selling most of its memory card lineup, while LaCie also increased pricing on storage products by as much as 12%.
Much of the issue is tied to the massive demand for NAND flash memory from AI companies and hyperscale data centers. Enterprise storage infrastructure for AI workloads is consuming huge amounts of flash memory, driving NAND prices significantly higher.
Supply Issues Are Affecting Camera Gear Too
As NAND wafer and contract pricing continue to rise, manufacturers are facing tighter supply chains and reduced inventory. That’s starting to trickle down into consumer products like SD cards, CFexpress cards, SSDs, and external drives.
For photographers and videographers, this likely means storage products will continue getting more expensive throughout the year.

Might Be a Good Time to Buy
Many of these products are currently sitting at their lowest prices in the last 180 days. With another round of price increases arriving in June, this may end up being one of the better opportunities to grab extra storage before costs climb even higher.
Inventory is also becoming harder to predict, especially with demand remaining high. If you’ve been putting off buying additional storage, it may be worth grabbing one sooner rather than later.
