Asda have recalled bags of Taj Chopped Spinach after they were feared to contain traces of metal.

The notice applies to 450 gram packs of the spinach with lot code 144009 and a best before date of 01-2026, and lot code 144010 with a best before date of 01-2026.

Customers have been asked not to consume the product and return it in store for a full refund. The wholesale retailer Eden Farms is also covered by the recall.

A statement from the Food Standards Agency read: “Taj Foods is recalling Taj Chopped Spinach because it may contain pieces of metal. The possible presence of metal makes this product unsafe to eat. The affected product has only been sold in Asda and Eden Farms.” No other products of the TAJ brand or other lot codes are affected, they added.

In a separate recent recall, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s asked customers to bring back jars of Patak’s Aubergine Pickle because it may contain pieces of glass, making it unsafe to eat. The official recall notice came from the Food Standards Agency which noted that the products affected had only been sold at Waitrose and Sainsbury’s stores.

According to the agency, the contaminated jars have the batch code of 3172, weigh 312g, and have the best-before date of June 2026. Those who have bought the product are urged to not eat it and return it to their local supermarket store for a full refund, and do not need a receipt.

The Food Standards Agency is in charge of issuing alerts when there is a problem with food and the product can either be “withdrawn” or “recalled”. Products can be recalled for a range of different reasons including safety – if a product displays risks for the customer – or quality – when the product isn’t working as it should be.
