AIF Global announced that Samyoung Chung has been appointed to the Steering Committee of Korea Investment Corporation, placing him among a select group of leaders who have served across South Korea’s three largest public investment funds.
The Steering Committee oversees governance and strategic direction for KIC, one of Asia’s leading sovereign wealth funds. The committee consists of six private-sector members and three ex officio members, including South Korea’s Minister of Economy and Finance, the Governor of the Bank of Korea, and KIC’s chief executive officer.
Chung currently serves as Head of APAC for AIF Global, an international think tank focused on institutional investors and large asset owners. His appointment adds to prior advisory and investment committee roles with the National Pension Service and Korea Post, making him one of the few professionals to serve across all three major Korean public funds.
“I am deeply honored by this appointment and the opportunity to serve KIC,” Chung said in the announcement, noting the importance of stewardship over Korea’s national wealth and the opportunity to strengthen collaboration among global institutional investors.
The appointment comes as KIC continues expanding its global investment footprint. According to the announcement, the sovereign wealth fund managed approximately $232 billion in assets under management at the end of 2025, with allocations spanning both traditional and alternative investments, including private equity, infrastructure, real estate, hedge funds, and private debt.
AIF Global Founder and CEO Brant Maller said Chung’s appointment reflects his standing within the institutional investment community and his experience advising large public investment organizations.
The announcement also follows a series of AIF APAC events in Seoul and Tokyo earlier this year that brought together executives from major global asset owners, including Japan’s Government Pension Investment Fund and Korea’s National Pension Service.
In addition to his industry advisory work, Chung previously served as a finance professor at Yonsei University and Long Island University. He earned graduate degrees in finance from Boston College and University of Massachusetts Amherst.
