Lee Hutton triumphed in the 5km road race in Arnhem, which was one of the few to go ahead as planned, with many others postponed or cancelled due to the extreme heat.
In-form Lee, having progressed to new age-category this year, gave a fine performance amongst a field of 89 runners, where he earned the coveted gold medal in the veteran male 70 category, finishing in a time of 25 minutes and 23 seconds in challenging conditions.
The hot weather has also disrupted other sporting events, but the Tenby Marathon and the Gloucester 10K managed to go ahead.
The Tenby Marathon, known for its pretty course which is demanding in places, saw Jaq Underwood finish in four hours, 17 minutes, and 41 seconds.
She was supporting a friend in the 26.2-mile race and managed to secure third place in the FV60 category.

Over 800 runners participated in the Gloucester 10K, which raises money for local charities.
Bourton Roadrunners’ Val McKay and Imogen Cox were among them, crossing the finish line together. Val completed the race in 72 minutes and 47 seconds, with Imogen just three seconds behind.
Bourton Roadrunners were at Parkruns at various locations over the weekend.
