Royal Voluntary Service Platinum Champion Lord Brett McLean who doubles as the President of Hastings Lions CIO was invited as a guest of honour to attend the annual Africa Day Celebrations.


Africa Day also known as African Union Day is an annual celebration held on the 25th May to commemorate the formation of the Organisation of Africa Unity (OAU) in 1963 which later became the African Union (AU).
Africa Day is a public holiday in several African countries.


This year’s theme was water sustainability where the organisation calls on its members and partners to promote sustainable and equitable management of the continents water resources.
The day also provides the opportunity to celebrate Africas culture, heritage, unity, diversity and the strength of the continent and everything thats positive about Africa and its citizens.
Lord Brett McLean said ” It was an honour and a privilege to attend this year’s Africa Day celebrations and watch culture and art unfold before my very eyes, to have the opportunity to try African cuisine and partake in this very special day.”
