Another star that has etched his name in the track and field history books is Armand “Mondo” Duplantis, the Swedish-American pole vaulter. However, not everyone is aware that the aforementioned trio of Holloway, McLaughlin, and Duplantis share common ground in the particular statistic of winning a single silver medal in their careers.

The three have stood atop the podium several times and have adorned the gold around their necks, yet there was a singular moment when they had to settle for silver. Grant Holloway finished second during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics when he had to face a defeat against his Jamaican counterpart Hansle Parchment.

On the other hand, New Jersey-based Sydney McLaughlin experienced a loss against her compatriot Dalilah Muhammad during the 2019 World Championships. Muhammad also shattered the world record after clocking 52.16 seconds, while McLaughlin trailed her with a 52.23-second finish.

Mondo Duplantis, who has some notable achievements in the form of gold, also had to settle for silver during the same 2019 World Championships in Doha. The 24-year-old had a close finish against Sam Kendricks, as both of them hit the target of 5.97 meters. However, it’s been years now since all three of them got barely any competition from their opponents, and their sheer dominance was on display every time they hit the track or the field.

Some major highlights of their career

Clocking in at a lightning-fast 7.29 seconds, Holloway also notched a rare milestone on Sunday: his 75th consecutive career victory. On the other hand, Duplantis is in a league of his own, as no one is even close to him in the pole vault when it comes to winning medals. He has framed one Olympic gold, two world championship titles, and three Diamond League final wins on his wall of fame.

He also holds the top spot in the men’s pole vault and men’s overall rankings. If that was not enough, then he has also shattered multiple world records. Sydney Mclaughlin needs no introduction when it comes to the women’s hurdle race. She is a two-time Olympics champion, a three-time world champion, and a one-time world youth champion, which makes her the force to be reckoned with in the track and field world.
