Westacre Middle School in Droitwich has been awarded the School Games Platinum Award, the highest honour in the School Games Mark scheme, recognising its “outstanding commitment” to physical education, school sport and promoting healthy, active lifestyles for all pupils.
The award is reserved for schools that have demonstrated sustained excellence in PE, sport and physical activity over a number of years.
Donna Evans, headteacher at Westacre Middle School, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive the School Games Platinum Award.
“This prestigious recognition reflects the incredible commitment of our staff and pupils, who embrace every opportunity to participate in sport and physical activity.
“We firmly believe that being active plays a vital role in developing confidence, resilience, teamwork and positive wellbeing.”

In its approach to PE, Westacre employs three dedicated PE teachers, which is uncommon for a primary school.
The school also employs a teaching assistant focused on promoting physical activity throughout the school day.
Structured sporting activities are provided during every break and lunchtime, ensuring all pupils have regular opportunities to get active in a fun and inclusive environment.
This level of provision extends into the school’s after-school programme, where more than half of all pupils take part in at least one sports club.
Ms Evans said the school’s success is built on strong collaboration.
She said: “Our investment in specialist PE leadership, high-quality facilities and providing structured sporting opportunities throughout the school day has enabled us to create a culture where every child can enjoy, achieve and thrive.
“I would like to thank our dedicated staff, supportive families and our local sporting partners for helping us achieve this fantastic milestone.”
Westacre pupils have taken part in more than 20 inter-school competitions and festivals in the past year, with around a third of all pupils proudly representing the school in competitive sport.
The school also runs regular intra-school competitions linked to the PE curriculum, ensuring that every pupil participates in competitive sport over the academic year.
