If this is your first time applying for a credit card, filling out an application can be intimidating. To make the process easier, make sure you know your Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, as well as your total annual income and expenses.

After submitting an application, an issuer will likely make a hard pull or hard inquiry that will appear on your credit report. Due to this inquiry, do not be surprised if there is a temporary negative impact on your credit score.
