A MOTORS expert has revealed the three best family cars you can get your hands on for less than £5,000.

One of the used cars is described as a “gorgeous” motor from a famous brand which comes complete with stylish diamond headlights.

As with pretty much all Volvos, the V50 offers reliability

The petrolheads at Top Gear have drawn up a list of the best family cars you can get on a budget.

First off the blocks is this offering from the Swedish manufacturers which comes with a fancy ‘R Design’ and could be yours for £4,450.

Under the bonnet is a 1.6-litre diesel engine giving you an average of 65.7mpg between a top up at the pumps.

There’s also the Volvo reliability which pretty much comes as a standard feature with their vehicles.

The one the Top Gear team plumped for had 103,000 miles on the clock, so you can expect there’s plenty more life left for family outings.

While the models that come with either a 1.9 or 2-litre versions are easy to find for under £5k, a 3.2 V6 version isn’t so easy to lay yours hands on for that price.

While the one found by the experts may have had some wear and tear, they still thought the 159 Sportswagon still looked “brilliant”.

It comes with the iconic Alfa Romeo grille from the Noughties and the spherical diamond headlights out front.

When considering a cheap estate, performance probably isn’t going to be a top priority.

But this Audi S4 Avant boasts a 4.2-litre V8 engine, giving you 344bhp.

Its 302lb ft of torque get it to 60mph under six seconds.

The Quattro drivetrain means it should be able to accomplish those figures in pretty much all environments.

Elsewhere, a classic car guru has revealed three cheap motors that could soon be worth thousands.

Among them are the world’s “ugliest ever car” which was once a regular sight on Britain’s roads.

Another savvy car expert has revealed four motors to buy as an investment.

If you want to look like you have loads of money without having the actual readies, then a motors expert recommends these vehicles that cost under £10,000.

A car-buying ace has also highlighted five motors worth getting your hands on that are “super cool” and have “something special about them” – all priced at £5,000 or under.
