A brother and sister aged five and eight – with another 15 injured – after a car smashed into a children’s birthday party.
The horror crash took place at a boat club in Berlin Township, Michigan, US. It is reported that the driver, a 66-year-old woman, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the deaths of the brother and sister. It also reported that out of the 15 injured, at least eight were children, the Mirror US reports.
The driver has been taken into custody, according to Berlin Township Clerk Denise Sovey Meyer. The horrifying event occurred around 3pm on Saturday. The victims were rushed to various local hospitals for treatment, as revealed by the Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Troy Goodnough, during a press conference later in the evening, described how the woman drove her vehicle at high speed into the facility, ending up approximately 25 feet inside after crashing through the wall.
He disclosed that nine out of the 15 injured individuals were in critical condition and had to be airlifted to hospitals, while the rest were transported by car. Among them were three children and six adults.

Chilling CCTV footage from the vicinity shows the dark SUV speeding towards the facility before crashing into the wall, causing a cloud of dust and debris to erupt from the building, which is just out of frame.
At the press conference, Goodnough announced that the suspect is currently detained at the Monroe County Jail and additional charges are expected. He said, according to The Detroit News: “The scene was described by first responders as extremely chaotic, with high levels of emotions of those directly involved and those who witnessed this horrific incident.”
The Detroit News has reported that information gathered by the authorities suggests the suspect may have been drinking at a local pub earlier in the day. The establishment, located just five miles from the boat club where the tragic incident took place, was swiftly closed down. An investigation into potential overserving is currently underway, as revealed by Goodnough during a press conference.
