Ireland’s Mona McSharry claimed a silver medal in the 100m Breaststroke on the opening night of racing at the Sette Colli meet at the Foro Italico in Rome on Friday.
McSharry is part of a 24-strong Irish team using the prestigious Italian meet as final preparation ahead of this summer’s major championships — the Commonwealth Games in July and the European Championships in August.
Another Sligo sswimmer Danielle Farrell, who’s also swimming in Italy this weekend, clocked 2:06.92 in her heat of the 200m freestyle.
Farrell is also part of the Ireland team for August’s European Championships, where she will be part of the 4 x 200m freestyle relay squad.
The Sette Colli meeting continues until Sunday.
