San Jose, California, United States, July 2026 — Altera has appointed Junaid Ahmed as its Chief Financial Officer, strengthening the executive leadership team as the company accelerates its growth as the world’s largest independent pure-play FPGA solutions provider.
Announcing the appointment, Altera welcomed Junaid at a pivotal stage in the company’s evolution, noting that his leadership will help strengthen Altera’s financial foundation, enhance operational scalability, and create long-term value for customers, partners, employees, and shareholders. With more than three decades of leadership experience across the global semiconductor industry, he brings deep expertise in corporate finance, strategic planning, transformation, mergers and acquisitions, and enterprise value creation.
Junaid joins Altera after spending nearly eight years with Applied Materials, where he most recently served as Corporate Vice President, Corporate Planning. In this role, he led the company’s corporate planning function with executive responsibility for Corporate FP&A, Finance Systems & Integration, Finance Transformation, Enterprise Portfolio Review, Global Indirect Procurement, and the Global Contingent Workforce. Earlier, as Corporate Vice President, Finance, he led treasury, finance transformation, finance systems, corporate strategy, and enterprise-wide Agile Finance initiatives, while also driving strategic procurement transformation and serving on the Customer Advisory Boards of Anaplan, UiPath, and BlackLine.
Prior to Applied Materials, Junaid spent nearly three years with NXP Semiconductors, progressing through multiple senior finance leadership roles, including Senior Vice President, Finance & Corporate Pricing. He also served as Chief of Staff to the CFO, where he helped steer finance priorities during a period of significant business expansion and major M&A integration while strengthening corporate pricing strategy and commercial analytics.
Earlier, he served as CFO of the Microcontrollers Business Unit at Freescale Semiconductor, partnering with business leadership to scale one of the company’s fastest-growing businesses and leading its successful integration into NXP following the acquisition.
Before that, Junaid held senior finance leadership positions at GLOBALFOUNDRIES, where he led Global Business Finance and later joined the Office of the CFO, driving portfolio optimization, pricing strategy, profitability improvement, demand forecasting, and finance transformation across the global organization.
His earlier career included leadership roles with Mubadala Development Company, Citi Investment Research, and Lam Research, where he built extensive expertise across corporate strategy, semiconductor industry analysis, strategic marketing, product management, business development, process engineering, and financial leadership.
Junaid holds an MBA in Finance and Strategy from the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business and has completed executive leadership programs at Berkeley Haas and Stanford Graduate School of Business.
As Chief Financial Officer, he will lead Altera’s global finance organization, supporting the company’s strategy to expand its leadership in programmable computing, FPGA technologies, AI acceleration, and next-generation semiconductor solutions.
