Paul Feig struck gold with The Housemaid, turning the erotic thriller into a box office hit last year, with a sequel already on the way. Now, the filmmaker is set to go even darker, signing on to direct thriller Detention for Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Platinum Dunes, reports Deadline.
The spec script was written by Daniel Gold.
We don’t have any plot details at this time.
That said, the outlet notes that Cameron Fuller brought the script to Feig and is said to be a “horror thriller”. Apparently, that excited Feig, who wanted to try something even darker than The Housemaid for his next thriller.
Heavyweights Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller, Cameron Fuller, Feig, and Laura Fischer are all on as producers. Steven Schneider, Bea Sequeira, and Daniel Gold will executive produce.
I had a great time with The Housemaid, which stars Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried. Is it a brilliant piece of cinema? No, but it’s good fun, with plenty of twists, turns, and over-the-top performances that led to it becoming a massive hit.
We may not know what Detention is about, but we’re talking about two studios between Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Platinum Dunes who have delivered all sorts of horror hits over the past couple of decades. There’s a ton of talent already involved here, and that’s before we even know who will star in the film.
This might be the first time I’ve ever been excited for detention, a place I spent a lot of time in during high school. Let’s hope Feig’s film turns out to be way more entertaining than that was.
