Confirming our inclusive employer status, the University has received Platinum status at the Australian LGBTQ+ Inclusion Awards.
UNSW has once again been awarded Platinum Employer status at the Australian LGBTQ+ Inclusion Awards hosted by Pride in Diversity, a workplace program of ACON. The awards highlight and reward LGBTQIA+ inclusion in the workplace across Australia.
UNSW was first awarded Platinum Status in 2024 and was one of the first three universities in Australia to receive the award. Platinum Employer status is the highest status possible.
To maintain the Platinum status, UNSW needed to develop a self-directed LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion initiative. The University developed an LGBTQIA+ Resource Hub, which brings a variety of resources, including community voices, support and research, into one place for students and staff.
Joshua Maher, UNSW Diversity and Inclusion Officer, led the development of the UNSW LGBTQIA+ Hub and said, “I’m really proud that we were awarded Platinum status.
“We developed the Hub to help make UNSW a university where everyone can be an ally, and where everyone feels welcome.”
What can you do?
Everyone can take simple steps to be a better ally and continue to make UNSW a welcoming and inclusive environment. If you haven’t already, register for the UNSW LGBTQIA+ Allyship Module – it’s short, free for all UNSW staff, and will help you build a foundational knowledge on LGBTQIA+ community and history.
