A 41-year-old man has been charged with several offences following an alleged break and enter at a Merewether Heights property at the weekend.
Police were called to a home on Rembrandt Drive on Saturday 20 June after receiving reports of criminal activity in the area.
At the scene, officers were told a door had allegedly been forced open and the premises ransacked, with a handbag, jewellery, cash, laptop and credit cards reportedly stolen.
Police will allege in court that later that day, eight fraudulent transactions occurred across Newcastle.
Following extensive inquiries, officers attached to Newcastle City Police District executed a search warrant at a home on Sun Hill Drive, Merewether Heights, about 11.30am on Tuesday 23 June.
They located and seized several items of interest including a handbag, purse, cards, two gel baster firearms, two knuckledusters, a slingshot and a taser.
A man was arrested nearby and taken to Newcastle Police Station.
He’s since been charged with 14 offences, including:
- Dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception (seven counts)
- Goods suspected stolen in/on premises (two counts)
- Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit (two counts)
- Break and enter house etc steal value less than or equal to $60,000
- Receive/dispose stolen property
- Possess unauthorised prohibited firearm
After being granted strict conditional bail, he’ll appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 16 July.
