LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Two men were arrested and charged following an investigation into a credit card scheme in Lincoln.
Yordany Cuervo, 39, and Dairo Permuy, 34, are each charged with theft by unlawful taking, $1,500 to$4,999, criminal possession of more than four transaction devices and unauthorized use of a financial transaction device.
On Nov. 7, 2025, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office published a law enforcement bulletin for two men accused of traveling through the Midwest and committing credit card fraud. Court documents show that the suspects targeted Walmart stores and would purchase gift cards with compromised payment cards.
Following the alert, an investigator with the Lincoln Police Department began searching for related cases and identified two fraud incident reports from Oct. 22 and Oct. 29. The investigators noted the similarities, including that the suspects purchased multiple Walmart gift cards at two Lincoln locations and drove a black pickup truck, documents show.
Officers reviewed surveillance video from Walmart and identified Cuervo and Permuy as the suspects in the Lincoln thefts.
On Nov. 10, Cuervo and Permuy were arrested by a South Dakota Highway Patrolman. The two are accused of committing credit card fraud in South Dakota, police wrote.
During a search of their pickup, authorities discovered 291 payment cards, a card reader, 11 Verifone card readers and four magnetic strips, documents show.
Investigators believe Cuervo purchased 12 gift cards worth $3,219.93 using compromised victim payment cards. During these transactions, 11 cards were attempted but declined by bank security safeguards, according to court documents.
Permuy is accused of purchasing 15 gift cards worth $4,119.05 using compromised victim payment cards. During these transactions, 11 cards were attempted but declined by bank security safeguards, investigators wrote.
Both had bonds set at 10% of $25,000. Their next court date is set for Aug. 4.
