Members of the public are being urged to take extra precautions following an increase in bank card fraud.
It comes after a number of bank cards were reported stolen from vehicles in West Bridgford.
After offenders took the bank cards, they then attempted and, in some cases, succeeded in using them to make purchases.
One victim reported nearly £200 of fraudulent transactions coming through within two hours of his card going missing.
Drivers are being encouraged to take preventative measures to secure their vehicles and protect their belongings.
Detective Sergeant Sally Collins, of Nottinghamshire Police’s fraud team, said:
“Many thieves are opportunists who will take any chance they get to break into your vehicle.
“We know that some steps we’re reminding people of may seem trivial, but they can make a huge difference.
“Ensuring you lock your vehicle, take any valuables with you, and park in a well-lit area all help reduce the risk of being a victim.
“Make sure to report any suspicious behaviour you may witness and get in contact with us if you are targeted.”
Incidents were also reported in Mansfield, Sutton and Beeston.
The force’s fraud team have released the following advice for victims if they discover their bank card is stolen:
- Notify your bank immediately and freeze or report your card as stolen
- Report it to the police on 101 and then Report Fraud at 0300 123 2040 if the card has been used
- Secure your accounts and change your online banking passwords immediately
- Review your bank statement to spot any transactions you did not authorise
- Review your credit report to ensure no fraudulent applications were made in your name
