Advantages of the Chime Card
In addition to being easy to qualify for, the Chime Card has no annual fee, no maintenance fees and no foreign transaction fees. However, to earn rewards, you’ll need to qualify for Chime Plus or Chime Prime3.
When you make a single qualifying direct deposit of $200+ or cumulative qualifying direct deposits of $400+ into your Chime Checking account in the previous 34 days, you’ll receive Chime Plus benefits. Chime Plus unlocks perks such as:
- 32% cash back in a category of your choice on up to $1,500 per month
- 52.75% APY on your Chime savings (vs. 0.75% APY for a standard member)
To receive Chime Prime benefits, you need to have $3,000+ in qualifying direct deposits into your Chime Checking account in the previous 34 days. With Chime Prime, you’ll unlock:
- 65% cash back in a category of your choice on up to $1,500 per month
- 53.75% APY on your Chime savings with qualifying deposits
- Priority Pass airport lounge membership with two complimentary visits per year
- Visa Signature benefits
What credit score do you need for the Chime credit card?
One of the best features of the Chime Card is that you don’t need a credit score to qualify. You simply need to have an active Chime Checking account.
There are no minimum deposit or balance requirements to open a Chime Checking account. It also has no monthly maintenance fees. A Chime Savings account isn’t required to get a Chime Card, but it has an APY of 50.75% to 3.75% depending on what type of Chime membership you qualify for and deposit eligibility. So it can’t be a useful savings account for Chime Prime members who qualify for the highest APY.

How the Chime Card can help improve your credit score
One of the most popular credit scoring models is the FICO Score, which ranges from 300 to 850. Higher credit scores are meant to show lenders you are more likely to repay your debts. With a better credit score, you increase your approval odds and may have access to lower interest rates.
Your FICO Score is comprised of five main elements:
- Payment history (35%)
- Amounts owed (30%)
- Length of credit history (15%)
- New credit (10%)
- Credit mix (10%
The Chime Card can give your credit score a boost when you consistently pay your monthly bill on time and in full. And Chime makes this easy with the Safer Credit Building feature. When you activate this auto pay option, your card balance is paid off automatically with funds from your Secured Deposit Account.4
Your payment history and total debt are the two biggest factors in your credit score. Since the Chime Card doesn’t add to your debt (your credit limit is based on your account balance), it can help your credit score if you’re consistently paying on time.
