Residents have been poking fun at two drivers whose cars were battered by waves after they got stuck on a beach.

Photos show the wrecked Peugeot 206 convertible and Vauxhall Corsa, which were completely ruined on the beach. Council officials explained that the drivers had taken their cars onto the sands near South Shore and then got stranded as the tide came in quickly on Blackpool beach.

The cars were tossed around by strong waves, flipping one car onto its roof and partially washing the other out to sea. On Thursday (Feb 29), officials finally managed to rescue the vehicles, which had missing wheels, smashed windscreens and heavy bodywork damage.

“We have been in contact with the registered keepers and will seek to recover our costs. We understand the vehicles became stuck in the sand and the drivers were unable to drive them off the beach before the tide came in.

“Thankfully, no one was injured but it serves as a reminder as to why only authorised vehicles should access the beach.”

Locals who saw the photos of the wrecked cars didn’t feel sorry for the owners for their decision to drive onto the sands.
