Step 1: Determining the Overall Portfolio Mix

The first step involves deciding what portion of an entire investment portfolio should be dedicated to crypto. A general guideline suggests an optimal allocation falls between one and five percent. Allocating less than this range may mean missing out on potential upside, while a higher percentage could introduce excessive risk and volatility. For most long-term, buy-and-hold investors, a one percent allocation is recommended. For instance, if an investor plans to put one thousand dollars into crypto, their total market portfolio would need to be one hundred thousand dollars.

Step 2: Choosing Specific Cryptocurrencies

The second step is selecting which cryptocurrencies to hold. Bitcoin should form the primary holding, as it represents sixty percent of the total crypto market value. Consequently, the report suggests Bitcoin should make up about sixty percent of an individual’s crypto mix.
