BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) -The City of Bluefield held a special board meeting to lay the levy.
New rates were discussed and finalized during the meeting. The levy rates are down compared to last year.
Last year’s private property rate was 25 percent. The new rate is 24.8 percent.
Last year’s commercial property rate was 50 percent. The rate has been lowered to 48.16 percent.
City Clerk Anthony Heltzel said residents will not notice much of a change.
“I would venture a guest to say for anybody who had an increase in their assessed value of their property, it’s probably gonna be about the same. The people who did not have a change in the assessment value of their property, theirs will go down,” Heltzel said.
Heltzel said the levy’s main purpose is funding the city’s public schools.
