JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KFVS) – The Missouri Department of Conservation and the Missouri Prescribed Fire Council are urging landowners and burn contractors to report completed prescribed burns on private land in Missouri.
The council’s online “Log Your Burn” reporting tool collects basic details such as date, county, acres burned, habitat type, whether a burn association helped, and whether fire escaped the burn unit.
Each burn should be entered separately, and officials recommend that landowners or lead contractors submit the entry to prevent duplicates.
Organizers say early spring typically brings the highest volume of private-land burns.
The statewide database documents safe, effective use of prescribed fire for goals such as reducing wildfire risk, restoring native habitat, improving forage, regenerating trees, and controlling invasive species.
They also say the information supports efforts to expand access to affordable prescribed-burn insurance, which they describe as a key barrier for contractors.
The form is available at moprescribedfire.org.
