Sturgeon County and region are preparing for another significant rain event. Environment Canada is forecasting between 40 to 70 mm of rain from June 26-28. The County is ready to respond, if required. Some of the proactive measures the County’s taken include:
- Having an emergency staff response team on standby
- Adding contractor resources, including additional pumps and rig mats, to supplement internal crews and equipment
- Proactively working with regional partners to ensure coordinated response
The County is strongly urging residents to take precautionary measures to mitigate a chance of flood on their property by:
- Staying aware. Download the Alberta Emergency Alert app to stay informed.
- Use weather protection sealant around basement windows and the base of ground-level doors.
- Ensure downspout drainage moves water away from the property.
- Install a sump pump and zero reverse flow valves in basement floor drains if possible.
It is always a good idea to be prepared for an emergency, year-round. Other steps to prepare for an emergency event include:
- Maintaining an emergency kit stocked with water, food, battery-powered or crank radio and flashlight, extra batteries and food for your animals.
- Keeping a vehicle with a full tank.
- Have a plan in case of evacuation. Include your pets and livestock, where they will go and how they will get there.
