Syndicates buying top bulls with overseas partners have meant record bull prices keep being smashed every week.
This week an Angus New Zealand record price was achieved when Kaharau Angus sold Lot 3 24V314 for a whopping $220,000.
The bull was purchased by Rolling Rock Angus, Te Akau, and Earnscleugh High Country Genetics, Alexandra, alongside a semen-sharing partnership with Ardrossan Angus from Australia.
Kaharau Angus owner Penny Hoogerbrug said the syndicate that bought the bull will breed from him, with the bull remaining in New Zealand, but with the possibility of him being used further afield than just New Zealand and Australia.
Good bulls come from good breeding, with Hoogerbrug pointing out the bull’s mother is an elite donor cow, with the value of the mother’s progeny sold in the sale hitting $630,000.

Kaharau Angus Farm manager Nick Carr said Kaharau Angus sold 74/74 with an average of $26,122.
In another syndicate-overseas partnership, Turiroa Angus sold Lot 1 24V008 for $122,000 to KayJay Angus and Australian Mordallup Angus.
Stud operator Andrew Powdrell, who runs the stud with wife Tracey, said Mordallup Angus will have the Australian semen rights to the bull.
Sales prices overall were good.
Meadowslea Angus, Fairlie, had an overall average of $12,316 with Lot 14 topping the sale at $28,000 sold to The Wolds Angus.
Meadowslea sold 68/72 on the day with remaining bulls available on a buy-now basis.
