Madurai: District collector M S Sangeetha carried out the first computerized randomization of electronic voting machines (EVM) in the presence of election officials and representatives of political parties. Following it, the strong room at Dr Thangaraj Road was opened and the EVMs were segregated for shifting to the assembly constituencies. The EVMs would be shifted to the strong rooms at the 10 assembly constituencies in the district. While six constituencies of Madurai district form the Madurai Lok Sabha constituency, two assembly constituencies namely Tiruparankundram and Thirumangalam are included in the Virudhunagar Lok Sabha constituency and two constituencies Sholavandhan and Usilampatti are in Theni Lok Sabha constituency. According to officials, the second computerized randomization will take place later in the assembly constituencies. It will allocate EVMs to the polling stations. Meanwhile, Rani Lama, election observer (expenditure) for Melur, Madurai East and Madurai North assembly constituencies inspected the election control room in the collector’s office. A monitoring team stationed at Madurai East assembly constituency seized 60,000 of unaccounted cash during a vehicle check at Varichiyur Road.
