Chelsea Cutler is deep into her fearless new era, and today’s single is more proof of it. The multi-platinum singer, songwriter, and producer has unveiled “What Else?,” out now via Mercury Records, alongside an official music video.
The track follows recent releases “BAD” and “SORRY I’M OBSESSED WITH YOU,” continuing to build toward a forthcoming project Cutler has yet to formally announce.
Cutler opened up about the single and the record in a vulnerable Instagram note, reflecting on 2 of the most consequential years of her life. “the last two years have been the two most interesting, fulfilling, challenging, fun, beautiful years of my life,” she wrote. “when i started writing this record, it felt like i was living through the end of my life as i knew it. nothing about me or my life looked the same or felt the same.”
She continued, describing a period marked by real change: leaving a longterm relationship, stepping away from touring, and spending sustained time both alone and with loved ones for the first time in her twenties. She also spoke about taking a more proactive approach to her health during that stretch.
Looking back on the uncertainty of it all, Cutler landed somewhere hopeful. “if i have learned anything, it is that it’s never really the end,” she wrote. “it’s just the start of the rest of your life.”
Musically, “What Else?” leans into shimmering production and a late-night intimacy, turning the electricity of undeniable attraction into a euphoric pop anthem. The chorus captures that pull directly: “Said you like my clothes on the floor of your bedroom, girl what else / And you like the things I do when I get you all to myself / And I like when you tell me things you don’t tell nobody else.”
The single arrives on the heels of Cutler’s recent collaboration with Hayley Kiyoko on “nobody should have you,” featured on Kiyoko’s third album and in the Girls Like Girls film. The 2 debuted the song live together for the first time at the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles.
Cutler has built her catalogue on candid songwriting and bold pop hooks, amassing billions of streams, 6 Gold singles, and a Platinum single across 3 albums: ‘How To Be Human’, ‘When I Close My Eyes’, and ‘Stellaria’. She’s also teamed with Jeremy Zucker on the ‘brent’ EP series and album, lent her voice to tracks with Quinn XCII, Louis The Child, and The Band CAMINO, and performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and Today Show.
