IMF findings on Lithuania are due to be presented at a press conference in Vilnius on Tuesday, May 26, at 9:00. The event will take place at the Chancellery of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, Gedimino Avenue 11, in the Lithuanian capital.
According to the announcement, the briefing is intended to present the assessment prepared after a two-week mission by the International Monetary Fund to Lithuania.
The mission was conducted under Article IV of the IMF’s Articles of Agreement. Such consultations generally involve a review of a member country’s economic situation, public finances and key policy areas.
For international readers, the Government Chancellery is the administrative office that supports Lithuania’s national government. Vilnius is the country’s capital and the main seat of central government institutions.
The press conference will be attended by Finance Minister Kristupas Vaitiekūnas, Bank of Lithuania Board Chairman Gediminas Šimkus and Kazuko Shirono, head of the IMF mission to Lithuania.
During the mission, experts assessed Lithuania’s economic situation, fiscal policy, taxation, and the planning and implementation of the state budget. The announcement also lists competitiveness, productivity, the green transition, energy independence, digitalisation, health, social protection and labour, education and other issues among the topics reviewed.
The Bank of Lithuania is the country’s central bank, while the Ministry of Finance is responsible for public finance policy and the state budget.
Access to the government building will be available only to media representatives accredited by the Government Chancellery. Journalists seeking accreditation were asked to contact the Chancellery by email using the address provided in the original notice.
The event is a media briefing. The published conclusions are expected to show how the IMF assesses Lithuania’s public finances, economic resilience and policy direction for the coming period, without the announcement detailing those conclusions in advance.
