Incident happened early Wednesday morning; it ‘serves as an important reminder that construction sites are private property and not places to explore or gather,’ South Simcoe police note in social-media post
South Simcoe police are issuing a safety reminder after six youths were allegedly caught trespassing at an active construction site early Wednesday morning.
At about 1:50 a.m. on July 8, police responded to a report of suspicious people at the site on Holland Street West in Bradford West Gwillimbury. Officers arrived on scene and located six youths who had entered the property without authorization.
The site was fully fenced and closed to the public.
All six youths were arrested and charged under the Trespass to Property Act and issued a Part III summons. They are scheduled to appear in court in October.
“This incident serves as an important reminder that construction sites are private property and not places to explore or gather,” police said in a Thursday morning social-media post. “They contain numerous hazards, including heavy equipment, open excavations, unstable surfaces and other dangers. Entering these sites without permission is not only against the law, but it can also have life-altering consequences.”
Show deference for construction site fencing, signage and areas with restricted access, the department said.
“Parents and guardians are encouraged to speak with their children about respecting private property and understanding that entering active construction sites is both illegal and unsafe,” police said.
Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity is asked to contact police immediately.
