SOUTHPORT — A July 4th weekend celebration ended with over 240 tents, chairs and personal property being slashed in Southport and is currently under investigation by local authorities.
On Friday, July 3, at roughly 7:30 a.m., the Southport public works department notified Southport police about several damaged chairs along North Howe Street. Upon responding to the area, officers discovered multiple slashed chairs set up for the Fourth of July Parade.
As officers continued observing the area, they discovered more chairs, tents and other personal property damaged. The police department received further reports of property damage and vandalism from residents and affected individuals, culminating in more than 240 marred personal items.
Detective Riley Ransom is currently investigating and asks any affected individuals who have not reported a vandalized item to do so here and include the following information:
- Full name, contact number and address
- Location where the property was placed along Howe Street
- Detailed description of the damaged property
- Estimated value of the damaged property
Ransom could not provide further information to Port City Daily due to the ongoing nature of the case.
